Replenishment of the funds of the O.K. Antonov State Aviation Museum
Today, the Antonov State Aviation Museum's collection was enriched with interesting examples of aviation literature thanks to a private donation.
We received:
- 5 books on model aircraft. It is worth noting that in Stalin's USSR, even children's literature on this subject was published by Oborongiz, as basic technical education was considered a strategic task. Among the acquisitions, the book Children's Kite Station (1941), dedicated to the manufacture of kites, attracts particular attention. It has a dedication: “To my beloved and dear son Slavik from his father.” It is unknown whether the boy ever used the gift, as war soon engulfed the country.
- Three books on hang gliding;
- Two books on aerial photography;
- The flight log of a pilot from the Dnipro Air Squadron. He began his career in 1956 on a Po-2 aircraft, later flew on an An-2, and from 1970 on an An-24;
- Two issues of the magazine Ogonyok (1929) with articles about the USSR's aviation propaganda campaigns — the journey of the squadron “Our Answer to Chamberlain” and the flights of the air yacht “Wings of the Soviets.” These materials remind us that aviation played an important propaganda role in totalitarian states.
We sincerely thank the donor for his significant contribution to the preservation of aviation history.
We encourage everyone who has items, documents, or publications related to aviation to contribute to the enrichment of the museum's collections. Even the smallest story can become part of a great legacy!
